Bandcamp Friday November: BI Picks
Thank the stars - it’s another Bandcamp Friday, where they waive online sales fees with all purchases going straight to the artists. Which is well-timed, as always. Here are some of our picks for November.
Teno Afrika, "Amapiano Selections" (Awesome Tapes From Africa)
A new release from Awesome Tapes From Africa - a full LP from Lutendo Raduvha aka Teno Afrika, a 19 year old Producer from Pretoria. Amapiano Selections encapsulates the ever increasing DIY music of South Africa. Influenced by South African house, jazz, and kwaito music, this is an excellent package of dancefloor sounds.
Sun Runners 女神の恋人達, "CHANGE 4 U" (Sun Runners)
To be honest, we didn’t even realise Sun Runners was an alias of Lord Tusk, but after a bit of digging it makes perfect sense. CHANGE 4 U is more deep goodness, very retro, very soulful. Purchase on sight.
Marlais “Meeting Is A Pleasure” (Treibender Teppich Records)
Meeting Is A Pleasure is the latest release from Marlais - a favourite here at BI. In the vein of his 2016 release (Warm At Last), the latest offering is another take on a traditional folk song, intertwined with his own modern production - a tapestry of stripped back vocal and melodic instrumentations, flutes and mellotron. Beautifully atmospheric, haunting but euphoric.
Dog And Fox - Who Gets The Cows (DO YOU RECORDS)
Finally - some great tackle from DO YOU. New age, Steve Reich style madness, I’m not really sure what else to say about this other then it’s fucking brilliant. Looks like it came out on vinyl but muggins here didn’t catch it, so I’ll have to make do with the digital track. But what a track.
